Zimbra Chief Executive Satish Dharmaraj left Yahoo roughly one year ago to join a venture capital firm. Zimbra was a highly-touted Silicon Valley start-up that had raised about $35 million from investors before it was acquired by Yahoo. The acquisition is expected to close in the first calendar quarter of 2010. Will have the right to continue utilizing "the Zimbra technology in its communications services, including Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Calendar," VMware said. Under the terms of the transaction, VMware will acquire all of the Zimbra technology and intellectual property, while Yahoo Zimbra "will be a building block in an expanding portfolio of solutions that can be offered as a virtual appliance or by a cloud service provider," VMware vice president and general manager for cloud services Brian Byun said in a statement.
